Drama and Debate in Primary 5!
Things took a dramatic and unexpected turn in P5 this week as we dove into Chapter 8 of our class novel, The Sheep-Pig. Tragedy struck the farm when one of the beloved ewes, Maa, was attacked by stray dogs. Shockingly, poor Babe the piglet is getting the blame!
With Farmer Hoggett facing the heartbreaking decision of whether or not Babe was truly responsible, P5 stepped in to help him weigh the evidence using a drama strategy called a Conscience Alley.
The classroom split into two opposing sides:
-
The Prosecution: Arguing passionately that the evidence pointed to Babe's guilt.
-
The Defense: Reminding everyone of Babe's kind nature and arguing that he was completely innocent.
As "Farmer Hogget" walked down the center of our alley, each side used their best persuasive arguments, expressive tones, and clever inferences from the text to win him over. It was a tough call, as both sides brought incredible energy and reasoning to the debate!
To wrap up our courtroom drama, we held an official classroom vote. We are happy to report that, by a clear majority, P5 has reached a verdict... NOT GUILTY!
We decided that our favorite little sheep-pig is simply too gentle to have harmed Maa.
We are impressed with how everyone used clues from the book to build their arguments and practice their public speaking skills. Hopefully Farmer Hoggett agrees with our verdict in Chapter 9!
