Famous author, Cerrie Burnell, visits Tempo
On Thursday 27th November, Primary 3, 4 and 5 pupils from St. Mary’s Primary School and Tempo Primary School came together for a lovely morning with author Cerrie Burnell.
Cerrie has published 12 children’s books, and the children were delighted to enjoy a special reading from Cerrie’s favourite book, Wilder than Midnight. Cerrie invited some children to read aloud with her too.
The children were in awe to be in the presence of a real-life author, and certainly her discussion on her love of books might have inspired a few budding authors in Tempo.
Cerrie spoke to the children about the challenges of growing up with a disability and how she never let it hold her back. With the support of her family and teachers, Cerrie became a popular presenter on CBeebies, an actress and author, and continues to promote inclusiveness and diversity through her writing.
Cerrie was accompanied today by Booktrust representatives Danielle and Lucy. Booktrust is a charity whose aim is to ensure that everyone has access to books in their home and that all children should be inspired to engage with the world of reading for pleasure and to improve their life chances.
Cerrie and Booktrust gifted every child with a signed copy of Wilder than Midnight. This was a wonderful conclusion to a truly magical experience for our pupils.
