Finding Nutritional Values in P5
As part of our Farming topic, Primary 5 pupils have been diving deep into the Eatwell Guide, exploring exactly where our food comes from and discovering its true nutritional value.
Today, the classroom turned into a science lab as the children examined various food wrappers. Becoming ultimate food detectives, they carefully filled out nutrition tables - tracking everything from protein and carbohydrates to hidden sugars, fats, and fiber.
Using their data, the pupils wrote sentences about their findings, for example:
-
Which foods make the perfect breakfast (thanks to a low sugar count!).
-
The best snacks to fuel up on before exercising (plenty of carbohydrates!).
Some of the high sugar and fat contents left the children genuinely shocked. We hope these new skills will help them to make healthy, informed choices about their daily diets.
