P4/5 recently completed a topic called The Gift of Chocolate.
Through this topic we explored Mayan civilisations, the origins of chocolate and made Mayan hot chocolate (the secret ingredient is chilli!) We also made Mayan masks.
We spent time researching facts about chocolate and map work on where cacao beans grow.
Through the topic we have enjoyed reading Charlie and Chocolate Factory, we used the story through Literacy and Art to create visualisations of Mr Wonka's chocolate room, to design and write about our own chocolate bars and to discuss characters in the story.
In Numeracy we focused on data handling. We did this by testing five different chocolate bars, and using a table to record our results, a tally chart to record our class results and then transferred our data to a bar graph.
