Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026

20th Mar 2026

From 1st – 17th Márta, our corridors were buzzing with the sound of an Ghaeilge as we celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026. It has been a joy to see the children embrace our heritage with such "craic agus ceol"

Throughout the month, our pupils enjoyed Scoil Spreagtha lessons with great enthusiasm. There was a fantastic focus on the building blocks of the language, with children revising their vocabulary, including Dathanna (Colours), Beannachtaí (Greetings) aguse Amhráin (Songs). P1-4 also created beautiful cards and art for Lá na Maithreacha (Mother's Day) using their Gaeilge.

Our dinner hall is now also adorned with beautiful Shamrock designs. Each child created a shamrock using traditional Irish ideas, creating a vibrant sea of glas, oráiste agus buí!

Our P5, P6, and P7 classes took part in a special Seanfhocail (Irish Proverbs) poster competition. It was lovely to see the children interpreting ancient Irish wisdom through modern art. A massive comhghairdeas (congratulations) to our winners!

P5-7 also enjoyed a fantastic digital experience, joining a live draw-along lesson with Gael Linn. The theme was "Mo Chorp" (My Body), and the children did a brilliant job following the instructions in Irish to create their masterpieces.

The highlight of the week was undoubtedly our Lá Glas (Green Day) and St. Patrick’s Day Talent Show. The standard of talent across the school was simply "go hiontach." From traditional music to modern dance, the children proved that Irish culture is alive and well in our school.

Go raibh maith agat to all the staff, pupils, and parents for supporting our Seachtain na Gaeilge activities. We are so proud of how our "Scoil Spreagtha" journey is progressing.
